The conclusion comes at the end of a report. It briefly restates your key findings.
Restate the key objective of the investigation, thus providing the context for what is to follow.
· The period of a simple pendulum was measured as a function of length of the string.
· The neutrino flux from the sun was measured using .
· The correlation between primate vocalization and sibling rivalry for food was studied.
· The hyper-fine structure of the was studied.
For the following objectives write an acceptable introductory sentence for the conclusion:
· Determine the speed at which sound travels through steel at STP.
·
Find out how many people go to movies on a
Friday evening in
·
Find out how deep the snow is on
· Determine how many eggs the Sand Piper lays per season in the Lower Mainland.
· Determine the variation in pitch of the strings in the violin section of the Vancouver Orchestra on average over a season. Consider only the pitch differences between the same strings on the same instruments. Determine this variation only after the concerts are over.
· Measure the constituents of gasoline, as sold by three major gas companies in the lower mainland. Compare the similar grades across brands.
When numerical results are available, state the key finding, together with uncertainties, and a comparison to the expected value.
· The period of the simple pendulum of length 75 cm was 3.23 +/- 0.12 seconds. This agrees with the expected value of 3.18 seconds.
· The acceleration due to gravity was found to be 10.75 +/- 0.13 m/s, which does not agree with the expected value of 9.81 m/s. This result is 11% higher than the expected result.
· This is a work in progress. The color of the output looks red, as expected. Spectral analysis is to follow.
· The landscape of this moon is smooth and flat. There are no visible features of any kind. This is in stark contrast with the expected landscape of a solid moon with no atmosphere. A first conjecture is that the moon is fluid.
· For the experiments that you have done, make up results that agree / do not agree with the expected results.
· For the experiments that you have done, imagine that you did not complete the experimental part, or that the experimental part was (in hind site) clearly done wrong. Write this part of the conclusion based on this possible outcome.
Usually one hopes to be a continuing investigator. It is strongly recommended that you suggest a further course of action to follow on this report.
· The investigation will continue using varying lengths of pendulums.
· An interesting area for further research would be to use different masses of carts to verify that there is no mass dependence of g.
· The uncertainty of the results of this experiment could easily be reduced by a factor of 10 by using a deflectometer for measuring the deflection of the beam.
· Write recommendation sentences for any experiments that you have completed successfully.
· It is recommended that the experiment be repeated. Special attention must be paid to the proper counting of the number of periods of oscillation.
· This experiment must be repeated. An electrical interlock should be added to the master on switch to prevent the experiment from starting if the oven is not on.
· A second trial of this experiment is under way, with a checklist in place to prevent the oversight that took place on the first trial (the starting positions of the carts must be noted for each trial).
· Write recommendation sentences for any experiments that you have completed unsuccessfully, or not completed.
