Meeting of Nov 30/99
About 80 people showed up (packed the room!). Rolf Eipper (one of our fearless
club leaders) was showed the Canadian stereo slide entries

PSA competition that was just held in Toronto. Slides from
stereo-photographers of across Canada including some that were
entered by our members. Slides were well received with subjects ranging
from portraitures to scenic views. Eva and Peter gave some background on
taking stereo pictures which was helpful to those not familiar with the
technique.

Tibet: a Poetic
Journey Through a Wounded Land. A four projector
multi-media presentation in magical 3-D, with a hauntingly
moving sound-track narrated by Michelle Waters, takes viewers, through
the realism of 3-D, into the heart of the Tibetan people, their culture,
religion and awe-inspiring land. The kidnapping of the
6 year old Panchen Lama by Chinese Authorities in May
1995, motivated award-winning photographer Gary Greenspoon to travel to
Tibet, return, and create a moving presentation to raise awareness and
hopefully support for this beleaguered land. In the winter
& spring of 1996, he spent 5 months in India,
Nepal & Tibet photographing spectacular 3-D images
and collecting live audio recordings for his sound-track. Beginning
in Dharamsala, where his meeting with His Holiness the Dalai Lama,
will remain his most cherished memory, his 9 week odyssey through Tibet
took him on a trek to Everest base camp, remote monasteries & village
settlements, and a pilgrimage to the holiest mountain on earth; Mt Kailash,
where something truly magical and mystical transpired.
Many films and videos have been produced on Tibet, some
with disturbing images of brutal suppression of
Tibetan people by Chinese authorities. Tibet: A Poetic
Journey Through a Wounded Land touches on all the important
elements of the Chinese occupation, but in a poetic and gentle way,
so that it is also suitable for viewing by children. Despite the tragic
situation in Tibet, this poetic journey ends on a positive note. Introductory
images in show courtesy of Courtney Milne, from his acclaimed book
"The Sacred Earth".
Rolf and I (Bernd) went to the Saturday showing. Gary
Greenspoon presented a great showing of Tibet and its people in 3D. Gary
provided a very insightful background to the struggle of the Tibetan people
under Chinese domination. John Asbacher took these photos of the Tibet show at
