15 people (possibly more and with also at least that many regrets) came for the first meeting of the 3D Club. The meeting was held at 7:30pm at Capilano College in North Vancouver. All those who attended were interested in stereo photography with backgrounds ranging from beginners to professionals. Other interests such as vr or computers were not represented.
The meeting started in an
unstructured manner with members browsing through various cameras and prints that where
brought along with small group discussions. A few of notable interest were:
There after, we began a more structured meeting with Bernd Simson, Rolf Eipper and Gary Cullen (the three primary promoters for the club beginnings) introducing this new club and the motivations behind it. This evolved into each person at the meeting introducing themselves with their specific interest in 3D. This description of a persons interest often sparked an interesting discussions and questions.
The meeting then went on to presentation of some 3D slides
that some members had brought with them. These were presented with Third Dimension Company
(TDC) 116 projector and a Viewmaster Stereomatic 500 projector onto a silver screen (and
viewed with polarized glasses). Some of the slides seen were:
At the end of the presentations
the meeting wound up with a number of members visiting the Physics department which has a
Holography Lab, a display case showing various 3D techniques and cameras and a computer on
the internet showing 3D pictures using a browser plugin called DepthCharge. Small group discussions
evolved in the Physics lab with the last of our members leaving for home around midnight.
