This outlines how you could assemble your own 3D Pix system.
The only unique components is the software and cardboard viewers, both available
here.
The 3D Pix system
- digital stereo camera
We use a digital slr camera (Canon 30D) with a stereo-splitter adapter.
In principle, any digital stereo camera system can be used that will download to
a computer on image capture. - computer/software
We use custom software (3D Pix) that formats new images found in a directory to
stereo and prints two up on 4x6inch photo printer. The software run under Windows/DotNet
and is available for purchase
- photo printer
We use a dye-sublimation, 4x6inch printer (Canon Selphy) for on location prints.
The print quality needs to be high to hold up under the stereo viewer. Inkjet does not
hold up well under the magnified view of the 3DPix viewer.
- Cardboard stereo viewer
Our viewer is designed to work with a 4x6inch photo that is cut in half. The cardboard viewers are also available unassembled for the best price.
We also have in our kit
- portable power to run the notebook computer and photo-printer
- folding table, chairs, booth walls
- cutting board (to trim photos to fit viewer)
3D Pix is run with two people
- one does the photography and interacts with customers
- one does the printing, assembles the 3D Pix and handles the cash
